Lisa Horrigan

Born and raised in Glastonbury, Connecticut Lisa Horrigan received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia in 1985. As the only open major in her graduating class, she pursued a self-tailored course of study in the textile design and painting departments. At the end of her junior year she was awarded the Emily Sartian Traveling Fellowship and, drawn to the Japanese esthetic, chose to visit Tokyo and Kyoto.

During her senior year she painted oils en plein air on the tree-lined streets of Philadelphia. After leaving the city she traveled extensively and lived in Switzerland. Returning home to Connecticut she focused first on watercolor and is an award winning member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society. Gradually oil painting has become her primary medium. She also became involved in competitive sailing, which has made her marine art personal and has been a nice addition to her diverse range of subjects. She joined the A.S.M.A. as an artist member as well as the Lyme Art Association as an elected artist.

Her fascination with figures, shapes, textures, light and atmosphere is reflected in her marines, landscapes and interiors. Regarding her diverse subjects, she has been inspired by travel to Italy and France as well as all of New England. Presently she works from her studio in West Thompson, Connecticut. Her paintings are in private collections in the United States, England and Switzerland.
