Dimetrious Athas

Dimetrious Athas, a native of Salem, MA was educated in commercial design and illustration at the University of California in Berkeley. Mr. Athas has been painting marine subjects since 1976. He spends several hundred hours a year researching his subjects. Mr. Athas' luminous realistic style has won him many awards and extensive media coverage throughout the United States.

Mr. Athas prefers to paint realistic scenes of catboats, sloops and schooners capturing the splendor of sailboats which he feels records their beauty for future generations. Each season Dimetrious participates in many races so that he can accurately portray that race. The final intention is to bring to the viewer the feel of the wind in the sails and the drama of the seas.

Images of his painting have been reproduced in Sea Classics, American Art Review, Antiques & Fine Art, Down East, Maine Boats and Harbors, Hemmings Motor News, the book "A Gallery of Marine Art" by Rockport Publishing, "Bound for Blue Water" by Greenwich Workshop, and the Marine Art Calendar for the past several years.
